Country powerhouse Jacquie Roar teams up with fellow The Voice alum Stee for “Lie with You,” a sultry, modern country duet that leans unapologetically into the messy side of desire. Released August 28, the track explores temptation, chemistry and the pull of wanting someone you know you probably shouldn’t.

From the opening moments, “Lie with You” establishes a seductive tension that carries throughout the three-minute track. Rather than presenting attraction in simple terms, Roar and Stee play into the song’s push-and-pull dynamic, giving the listener the feeling of two people standing dangerously close to crossing a line.

Roar’s powerhouse vocals are perfectly suited to the material. She brings a confidence and rawness to the performance that makes the song feel less like a guilty confession and more like an honest admission: sometimes desire is difficult to ignore. Stee provides a natural counterpoint, and the chemistry between the two singers gives the duet an authenticity that is difficult to manufacture.

The collaboration also carries a full-circle quality. Roar and Stee first became friends while competing against one another on The Voice, and their shared history translates naturally into the record. Their voices complement one another without competing for the spotlight, allowing the song’s central tension to remain front and center.

“Lie with You” embraces the taboo at the heart of the story without trying to make excuses for it. The song lives in that fleeting moment when attraction takes over and common sense starts to fade. It is sexy, playful and a little reckless: qualities that give the track an edge beyond the traditional country love song.

That willingness to explore complicated emotions is part of what makes Roar such an intriguing artist. Following her run to the Top 4 on Season 24 of The Voice, she has continued carving out her own space in country music with a combination of powerhouse vocals, fearless songwriting and an unmistakable stage presence.

Co-written by Roar, Christian Pond, Jesse Slack, Jason Mater, Steve Fee and Jordan Gray, “Lie with You” demonstrates Roar’s ability to take a familiar country theme, temptation, and give it a fresh, modern perspective. With Roar now making her official country radio debut, the song arrives at an especially significant moment in her career. Her recent feature in Billboard Country Update, where she spoke with journalist Tom Roland about the song and her approach to complicated storytelling, only adds to the momentum surrounding the release.

“Lie with You” ultimately succeeds because it doesn’t try to make its characters innocent. They’re attracted to each other. They know it’s complicated. And they want to give in anyway.

Sometimes the best country songs aren’t about making the right choice. They’re about the moment you decide not to. With “Lie with You,” Jacquie Roar proves she’s more than capable of making that moment sound irresistible.
