Melody's Miscellaneous: Interview with Pop/Punk Band Me From You

Me From You approaches the pop punk construct with richness. Formed in 2018 by Steven Murillo and Chris Murphy, the band strives for focused lyricism. Their recently released EP “Rival Towns,” recorded by Alan Day of Four Year Strong, tells a multitude of personal stories, while heavily utilizing reverse delay as a branded sonic element.

Your new single "Borrowed Time" brings back some nostalgia from the early 2000s! Can you tell us who some of your biggest musical influences are?

Thank you! Honestly our biggest influences are bands like Blink-182, The Story So

Far, Four Year Strong, and bands of that nature. I for sure believe Alan Day had a

huge influence on the early 2000’s punk sound on this EP for us. A lot of the ideas we

had going into the recording process were much different from what you’ll hear on

the EP and Alan was the backbone of that process. He helped us create a sound that

we truly fell in love with.

If you could either record a single or write a song with one of your idols, which would you choose and why?

I think to record or write a song with Dan or Nick from The Wonder Years would be a

dream. We’ve always been huge fans of theirs and they’re song writing has definitely

been a major influence for us, especially lyrically.

Your upcoming EP "Rival Towns" is filled with personal stories. What is your favorite song on the album?

love them all but if I had to choose, Borrowed Time and Years Behind are my two

personal favorites. Years Behind’s chorus is super catchy and fun but it also

describes a deep conversation on a summer night I spent in a Sonic’s Drive- In.

What can we expect from you in 2022?

We have a few things planned we’re keeping hush on, for now. But definitely expect

more music, shows, and merch come the new year! Our EP is out Dec. 10th so check

it out and follow us on social media!
