Country Music runs deep in her DNA with her Grandmother, Country Music Hall of Fame member Dottie West and her uncle Lefty Frizzell, who is also a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Her mother and uncle, David Frizzell, recorded the award-winning classic, “You’re The Reason God Made Oklahoma.”

"Muscle Shoals holds a proud and rich music history, from Aretha Franklin to Percy Sledge, and heading to Wishbone Studios there felt like the perfect fit to cut this special song. It has such a laid-back, warm retro vibe and the walls have soaked up the sounds of Hank Jr. cutting "Family Tradition," as well as Roy Orbison, Lionel Richie, and Shenandoah. Owner of the studio, producer Billy Lawson has kept the tradition of the magic of Muscle Shoals alive, and I was so glad to have his talents on this project," reflects Tess Frizzell.

"Great song, delivered with raw, heartfelt honesty. This proves without a doubt Tess carries the Frizzell/ West talent gene while giving us her own new generation sound and style," reflected Grand Ole Opry® member Jeannie Seely.

"Tess Frizzell possesses some serious genes, that’s for sure! Writing this song with her iconic grandmother, Dottie West, is like something straight out of a movie! Unreal! You did a great job, Tess! You know Dottie is smiling BIG!" exclaimed Steve Wariner, who worked for many years with Dottie West.

"I couldn't be more proud of Tess following so well in the family footsteps in Country Music! Tess's vocal performance on this song "The Wrong One" shows incredible emotion and a style that's all her own. I am so proud of her and I know she is going to do great!" shared her father, Allen Frizzell.

"Tess has a Country music pedigree like no other. She sings with incredible emotion and the world needs to hear what it's missing," stated co-writer and producer Billy Lawson.

"Tess is one of the most natural born songwriters that I have ever met. Her voice is so rich and her music has a traditional country feel to it, but at the same time, it's very fresh and it fits in with what's happening today," added co-writer Bobby Tomberlin.

“It’s not easy to smile when you’ve been crying

And pretend like everything’s okay when inside you’re dying

It’s so hard to feel love when you’re lonesome

Things will never feel right when you’re with the wrong one

Time hasn’t done a single thing to make us better

Just steals away all of the dreams of a love that really matters

We’re both gonna come up short in the long run

Things will never feel right when you’re with the wrong one

The wrong one will bring you down

Stand in the way of a good thing coming round

You can’t let the right one in

Tied to someone on the losing end

Sooner or later it’s all gonna come unwound

I’ve been one of them hell bent on staying

You know everybody knows one

Things will never feel right when you’re with the wrong one

I’ve been one of them hell bent on staying

You know everybody knows one

Things will never feel right when you’re with the wrong one”

This song is real and raw, as most listeners have lived and loved and have experienced a relationship that they came to find wasn’t the right fit. What Tess loves about this song is there’s no villain, because not every story has a villain. Sometimes hearts break just trying to force something that isn't right. She is especially honored and feels special to see her name listed as co-writer with her grandmother, Dottie West. The song was born from lyrics Dottie started on a yellow notepad back in the 60’s. Tess picked up her heartbreak with her own some 50 years later and finished the song with co-writers Bobby Tomberlin and Billy Lawson. The beauty of singing about real emotions is knowing that even 50 years from now, someone could hear the finished song and relate to every word.
